The San Diego Natural History Museum is located in Balboa Park, San Diego, and their mission is to bring the natural world to your fingertips and to endorse an understanding of concepts like evolution and to spark interest in nature and respect for the environment. Their hours are from 10 am until 5 pm every day, except when they are closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Some of their already available exhibits are Skulls, where guests are able to view over 200 types of skulls that were found all over the world from varying species of animals, Fossil Mysteries, , and Coast to Cactus in Southern California, where you can explore habitats of different wildlife that resides in Southern California through hands-on activities, live animal examples, and several outlets of media. A newer exhibit that the museum just opened up, called Unshelved: Cool Stuff From Storage, is where guests are invited to go “backstage” to view different things that were once kept from the public eye and were left in storage – things as small as beetles, to things as large as old whale bones – all in the new wonders of the museums for you to explore. Other newer exhibits that aren’t on display yet is their Gems and Minerals exhibit, opening in November 2018, where visitors can view the newest collection of nearly 15,000 different types of gems and minerals, and the other new exhibit which opens in Summer 2018, is called The Backyard, and is where little ones can learn all about our natural world through their playtime and natural curiosity.
